A lighting device for a road sign plate is provided to make drivers recognize the driving condition of a road in the snowy, rainy and foggy days or the nighttime by increasing the discriminating power of a driver and to prevent the accident caused by the lowering of the discriminating power of a driver for a road sing plate. In a road sign plate(100) fixed to a vertical column(1) erected vertically from the ground or a horizontal column(2) extended from the vertical column(1), the lighting device for a road sign plate(100) comprises: a battery plate(10) formed on the vertical column(1) to convert solar energy into electric energy; a fixing ring(20) coupled on the upper end of the vertical column(1); a pleated bearing bar(30) formed on the fixing ring(20) to be controllable in angle freely; a square diffusion lens(40), whose front is composed of a transparent window, coupled with the bearing bar(30) to diffuse illumination to the surface of the road sign plate(100) with letters and figures; a photo sensor formed on the outer end of the diffusion lens(40) to sense the luminosity of the surroundings; and an illumination unit formed in the diffusion lens(40) and radiated/controlled according to the luminosity of the surroundings from the photo sensor to provide illumination for heightening the discriminating power of the letters and figures printed on the surface of the road sign plate(100) through the electric energy accumulated of the battery plate(10).
