PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the effect of amplitude cancellation caused by an interference between synthesized transmission and reception signals in an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus. SOLUTION: Complex transmission signals having different frequencies and different focal positions are first provided (S30, S32 and S34). A real number transmission signal obtained by adding real number components is transmitted to a transmitting and receiving section and a corresponding real number ultrasonic wave is transmitted from the transmitting and receiving section to a living body (S36). A corresponding reflected wave is then received, a reception signal is obtained and a real number reception beam signal of the real number part is calculated (S38). An imaginary number reception beam signal is calculated in a same manner on the basis of an imaginary number transmission signal (S40 and S42).
