Method for operating a mobile station (MS1) for a radio communication system in which the station receives data via a first channel (CH1) and interrupts data receipt in order to carry out measurements on at least a second channel (CH2). Interruption of data receipt is carried out based on a measure of the signal receiving quality on the first channel. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a mobile station for a radio communications system and; (b) a unit for a radio communications system that has a mobile station for receiving data.
