PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting membrane damage which is capable of precisely detecting the damage of a filtration membrane and, moreover, simply by using a general purpose instrument in a water treatment method of treating raw water with the filtration membrane, is capable of precisely detecting the damage of the used filtration membrane and, moreover, simply by using a general purpose instrument particularly in the case of treating extremely clean raw water such as ground water and also in the case of monitoring a large number of membrane modules with a small number of a water quality meters (turbidity meters) and is capable of enhancing the recovery rate of water. SOLUTION: In the method for detecting membrane damage, the membrane damage of the filtration membrane in a water treatment apparatus is detected by measuring the number of fine particles or turbidity of membrane filtrate. Therein, membrane backwash water or membrane backwash concentrated water is injected into the raw water.
