<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of separating an alcohol and water which can promote energy saving to replace the conventional distillation column, and its apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The method of separating an alcohol and water comprises bringing a solvent (1) in a supercritical state into contact with a mixture (3) having an alcohol and water as the major components to separate the mixture into an extraction phase (5) containing the solvent in a supercritical state and the alcohol and a drainage phase (6) having the water as the major component, decreasing the pressure or temperature of the separated extraction phase (5) to a pressure or a temperature of lower than the critical point, separating the extraction phase into an alcohol phase (8) having the alcohol as the major component and a solvent phase (7) having the separated solvent as the major component, and increasing the pressure or temperature of the separated solvent phase (7) to a pressure or temperature of the critical point or higher to render the solvent in a supercritical state again. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
