PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for a two-component developer having higher durability, to provide a carrier for a two-component developer exhibiting high durability even in combination with toner containing a release agent, and also to provide an image forming apparatus which uses the developer using the carrier. SOLUTION: The carrier having a coating film consisting at least of binder resin and particles is characterized in that: the particle diameter (D) and film thickness (h) of the binder resin are in the relation of 1<[D/h]<10; and the particles are surface treated with a single silicon acrylate compound or two or more kinds of compound expressed by general formula in the figure. In the formula, R1 represents a 1 to 6C alkylene group, each of R2, R3 and R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a 1 to 4C alkyl group, and R5 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.
