PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face verification device, which can exclude the influence of external light that illuminates the face of a person to be verified and the influence of lighting that reflects into the background of the person, and can provide a stable comparing environment at all times. SOLUTION: Three illumination meters 8a, 8b and 8c are placed at an operation part 1 provided with a camera 2 to input a face image of a person to be verified, and illuminance in close to the operation part 1 is measured. On the basis of each measurement result, an opening and closing free bellows device 22 for shading, which is placed so as to cover an area that includes at least the operation part 1 and the face part of the person to be verified facing the operation part 1, when the bellows is opened at a maximum, is openably and closably controlled at two levels.
