PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of acquiring a recording position adjusting value without bothering a user by reading out a recording position adjusting pattern recorded on a recording medium and capable of optimally adjusting the recording position by reading out the recording position adjusting pattern with high accuracy, and to provide a method for setting the recording position adjusting value and a recording method.

SOLUTION: An optical sensor S1100 is provided in the vicinity of a recording head H1001 and located at a position shifted from the recording head H1001 to the side of a nip roller exhibiting a strong restriction force to a recording sheet P recorded with a recording position adjusting pattern.
