<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxygen separation membrane element with superior mechanical strengths and oxygen separation performance, and a production method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the oxygen separation membrane element, a porous support body is composed of at least two stacked porous layers of different porosities, with the porosity of the stacked porous layers gradually decreasing toward an oxygen separation membrane. Preferably, the difference of the porosities between the adjacent porous layers is within 20%, and the difference of the porosities between the oxygen separation membrane and the porous layer adjacent to the membrane is within 5%.
