PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start switch failure detecting device for a man conveyor in which the man conveyor cannot be restarted as long as a start switch is in failure so as to improve safety. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a failure detecting means to detect failure of the start switch in a case where the start switch is in the on-state when power is charged, or in a case where the on-state of the start switch continues for prescribed time or longer, and a start prohibiting means to prohibit start of the man conveyor based on detection of failure of the start switch by the failure detecting means.
