A refrigerant suction pumping apparatus for a reciprocating compressor is provided to reduce flow resistance of refrigerant gas by pushing refrigerant gas flowing backward into a compressing space, thereby increasing a suction amount of refrigerant gas. A reciprocating motor is fixedly installed at a frame and has a mover reciprocating in a straight line. A piston(42) is combined with the mover and is supported by resonance springs so that the piston reciprocates in a straight line inside a cylinder. A suction valve(43) is installed at a front end surface of the piston for limiting suction of refrigerant gas. A discharge valve assembly is arranged at a front end surface of the cylinder for limiting discharge of refrigerant gas. A gas guide pipe(110) is inserted into a suction passage of the piston for guiding refrigerant gas toward the suction valve while reciprocating in a straight line together with the piston. A sliding member(120) is slidably inserted into an outer peripheral surface of the gas guide pipe for forming a variable volume space between the outer peripheral surface of the gas guide pipe and an inner peripheral surface of the suction passage of the piston.
