PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element causing little change in an organic thin film under high temperatures, highly reliable and easy to manufacture, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In the structure of this organic electtoluminescent element 100, a first electrode 11 is extended perpendicularly to the space in the figure on a substrate 1, a first organic thin film 21 serving as a luminescent layer is formed on it by applying a low molecule based material, a second organic thin film 22 serving as a hole block layer is formed on the organic thin film layer 21, and a second electrode 12 is extended perpendicularly to the first electrode 11 on the second organic thin film layer 22. Since the luminescent layer is formed by applying the low molecule based material in the organic electroluminescent element 100 having this structure, the organic electroluminescent element is easily manufactured, and since the hole blocking layer is provided, luminous efficiency is enhanced.
