<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noise suppressor for reducing the generation of a noise due to the influence of the dark current of a continuously used CCD in a digital camera employing an image pickup element such as a CCD. <P>SOLUTION: The noise suppressor employing an image pickup element as an image pickup means outputs a vertical synchronization sinal at a first cycle in a first period before exposure for picking up a subject. If the exposure time of the image pickup element is longer than one second, a vertical synchronization signal is outputted at a second cycle longer than the first cycle in a second period during the exposure. If the exposure time of the image pickup element is equal to or shorter than one second, a vertical synchronization signal is outputted at the first cycle. The second cycle is equal to a time at which exposure data are taken in from the image pickup element in one field after exposure.
