<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an apparatus unit that can be used by a user with ease by being operated under the most appropriate condition regardless of types of the apparatus unit, genuine / non-genuine or recycle / non-recycle exchanged in the image forming apparatus body. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an apparatus unit provided with a first non-volatile memory retaining recognition information and an image forming apparatus body provided with a second volatile memory retaining a plurality of second recognition information and a plurality of control information.
