PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure achieving improved strength while reducing the weight of a pillar member by converting side collision input into the input of the pillar member in the vertical direction of a vehicle body and sustaining the input conversion. SOLUTION: Side roof rails 1 and side sills 2 are connected to each other via pillar members 3, and the right and left side roof rails 1 and the side sills 2 are connected to each other via roof cross members 4 and floor cross members 5 at positions of connection portions 6, 7 of the pillar members 3. An input conversion means 10 is provided for sustainably converting the side collision input on the pillar member 3 in an approximately horizontal direction from outward to inward of a vehicle into the input of the pillar member 3 in the vertical direction of the vehicle body. The side collision input is sustainably converted into the input of the pillar member 3 in the vertical direction of the vehicle body, thus suppressing the deformation of the pillar member 3 to the room side while absorbing the input as longitudinal compression load.
