DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE AND ILLUMINATION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent start-up malfunction due to an influence of a floating capacity in a discharge lamp lighting device having a resonance circuit to generate a start-up voltage.

SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device consists of at least two switching elements to switch an output voltage of a DC power supply, the resonance circuit to generate the start-up voltage for starting the discharge lamp by a voltage switched by the switching elements, and of a control circuit to control the switching elements. The device has a plurality of resonance circuits to generate the start-up voltage and makes the discharge lamp start by the resonance voltage generated by a first resonance circuit, and in the case the discharge lamp does not light up, it switches the resonance circuit so as to light the discharge lamp by the resonance voltage generated by another resonance circuit.
