PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively improve the success rate of white balance control with the minimum number of user operations. SOLUTION: An image pickup apparatus is provided with an arithmetic operation means (14) for automatically determining a white balance control amount for controlling the illumination color of a subject image picked up by an image pickup element, and display means (10, 14, 13) for displaying, to the outside, information about illumination types ("CLEAR", "CLOUDY", "FLUORESCENT" etc.) which can be controlled by the automatically determined white balance amount. Providing a user interface (15) for allowing a user to input information for correcting the automatically-determined white balance amount on this image pickup apparatus enables the operation means to correct the white balance control amount according to the inputted information.
