A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided to improve luminance characteristics in a selective erase period. The plasma display panel comprises a plurality of scan electrodes(Y), and a plurality of sustain electrodes(Z), and a plurality of address electrodes(X) according to a selective write and selective erase driving method. According to the method for driving the plasma display panel, one frame is divided into a selective write period comprising at least more than one sub fields and a selective erase period comprising at least more than one sub fields. And a negative pulse and a positive pulse are supplied only to a first subfield of the selective erase period.
