PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) excellent in a color tone, resistance to hydrolysis, heat stability, transparency, and moldability, decreased in foreign matter, and capable of being suitably used for a film, monofilament, fiber, electrical and electronic parts, automotive part, and the like. SOLUTION: This PBT contains a titanium catalyst in an amount of≤150 ppm as titanium atoms, has a methoxycarbonyl end group content of≤0.5μeq/g, and has a value (α) expressing a ratio of active titanium in the titanium catalyst, specified by equation (I):α=X/[M] ([M] is a concentration (ppm) of the titanium atoms in the PBT; and X is an activity parameter defined by a specified formula).
