A bearing 11 of a connecting rod 12 has a half shell 14 mounted in a big-end portion 13 of the connecting rod 12 and has a half shell 17 mounted in a bearing cap 16a, the latter being provided with upstanding end portions 19a and with an intermediate portion having a thickness which decreases towards a line A-A. The half shells 14, 17 may be bonded to the portion 13 and cap 16a respectively. The portion 13 of the connecting rod 12 is formed with a bolt-hole 22 and each end portion 19a of the cap 16a is formed with a bolt-hole 21 so that the cap 16a is clamped to the portion 13 by means of a bolt 23. Each end portion 19a of the cap 16a is provided with an inclined surface 33a which engages a respective inclined surface 34a on the portion 13 of the connecting rod so that, when the bolt 23 is tightened, the half-shell 17 is pressed into engagement with a shaft mounted in the bearing. A slot 50 and tang 52 connection maintains the strap in a fixed position transversely of the connecting rod 12. |
