A confectionery composition delivering antiplaque agents to the oral cavity when applied thereto, the composition being comprised of a homogeneous mixture of a solid base material and an antibacterial ester having the formula (I); wherein R is an alkyl chain of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and R<1> is an alkyl chain of 6 to 30 carbon atoms and X is an anion.
