PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a directional optical coupler and to reduce the number of test light sources and detectors.
SOLUTION: An input optical fiber (202), an output optical fiber (204), a pair of orientational elements (206, 208), and the detector (128) form an alignment channel in an optical switch (200). The input optical fiber (202) in each alignment channel and the output optical fiber (204) are dedicated to propagate an alignment optical beam (118) through the optical switch (200). The dedicated orientational elements (206, 208) orientate the alignment optical beam (118) from the dedicated input optical fiber (202) to the dedicated output optical fiber (204). The detector (128) receives the alignment optical beam (118) from the dedicated output optical fiber (204), and forms a signal expressing the alignment optical beam (118). The signal is transmitted to a control apparatus (130), and the control apparatus forms a corrected signal to an orientational element array. All orientational elements in the array are adjusted by the corrected signal for minimizing the loss of an optical signal power.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
