PURPOSE: An apparatus for improving contrast of an LCD projection system is provided to increase contrast while maintaining whole brightness of a projection set by reducing an angle of light entering a green panel while maintaining angles of lights entering red and blue panels. CONSTITUTION: A lamp(1) generates light. A plurality of lenses(3,9,10) change the light to have an angle distribution characteristic or location distribution characteristic. An aperture(16) increases contrast of a whole projection set by reducing an angle of light having the most intensity of radiation among color lights transmitting the lenses. A plurality of LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panels(11,12,13) display an image of each color by lights transmitting the lenses and the light with the reduced angle.
