PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary switch whereby the accuracy in start timing of switching action is easily enhanced. SOLUTION: (A) Three fixed contact pieces 2, 3, 4 are disposed on an insulating plate 1 away from each other. (B) Rotary contact piece 8 having contacts 5, 6, 7 in three directions is disposed to face the fixed contact pieces 2, 3, 4. (C) The contacts 5, 6, 7 of the rotary contact piece 8 rotate clockwise and counterclockwise from a neutral position where they are not brought into contact with either one of the fixed contact pieces 2, 3, 4. (D) If the rotary contact piece 8 rotates clockwise form the neutral position, after the contact 6 is brought into contact with the fixed contact piece 3, the contact 5 is brought into contact with one side of the fixed contact piece 2. (E) If the rotary contact 8 rotates counterclockwise from the neutral position, after the contact 7 is brought into contact with the fixed contact piece 4, the contact 6 is brought into contact with the other side of the fixed contact piece 2.
