摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate-like polarized light separation device having a repetitive structure where a polarized light separation film surface and a reflection film surface are alternately arranged at fine intervals, and to provide a projection type display device using the polarized light separation device. <P>SOLUTION: In a manufacturing process of the polarized light separation device, first, a glass block is formed by alternately laminating a sheet glass having a polarized light separation film constituted of an inorganic multi-layer film on its surface and a sheet glass having a reflection surface on its surface together, and the glass block is cut along a cutting surface oblique to the stuck surface. A projection part which is used to position the polarized light separation device may be formed on at least one of the side faces of the planar block thus produced by cutting. By sticking aλ/2 phase difference plate on a part of the light exit surface of the polarized light separation device, the polarized light separation device for emitting the light from the light source part as a luminous flux having one polarization direction, that is, either of s-polarized light or p-polarized light is obtained.
