PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of an intermediate transfer system which prevents the increase of surface friction coefficient of an intermediate transfer body and prevents the edge exfoliation of an intermediate transfer body cleaning blade and the deterioration of cleaning performance due to edge damage by using a simple and convenient method without making the device large-sized. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus of an intermediate transfer system, the intermediate transfer body cleaning means has the blade as a cleaning member and a means for imparting one part of toner removed from the intermediate transfer body at the upstream side in the traveling direction of the intermediate transfer body to the intermediate transfer body again.
