PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branch type propulsive excavator which launches branch shield excavator from it, has simplified structures around openings, through which these branch shield excavators launch, to reduce the cost of manufacturing these openings and ambience, and is available for excavation of a wide tunnel under the roads or rivers where any vertical shaft construction is difficult. SOLUTION: This branch type propulsive excavator comprises a propulsive excavator 1 propelled by a propulsion system to excavate tunnels and a plurality of branch shield machine capable of launching from the propulsive excavator 1 in the direction perpendicular to the excavation direction of propulsive excavator 1. The body component 12 of this propulsive excavator has a rectangular shape in section and openings 80 are provided adjacent to one another at the side flat board part of this body component 12 for launching the branch excavators. Inside the body component, entrance rings 81 are provided around the respective launching openings, along with the gates 7 which close watertight these plural launching openings 80 and open by sliding away from the excavation direction of the propulsive excavator when each branch shield excavator launches.
