System and method to control the line pressure of a transmission

The method involves regulating the hydraulic supply pressure for a gearbox by determining the currently required minimal pressure for operation of the gearbox and setting he supply pressure at least approximately to the minimum pressure. The minimum pressure is the sum of a minimum coupling pressure and a minimum pressure for other gearbox elements, especially valves. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for regulating the supply pressure for a gearbox.
