The invention relates to the production of vanadium catalysts of conversion SO2 in SO3. A catalyst of conversion SO2 in SO3, which contains vanadium oxides, alkali metal (K, Na, Rb, Cs), sulfur, and siliceous body formed from natural and/or synthetic silica, includes the pores with radii up to 65000 ?. In this case, in the body the content of pores with radii of 1000 - 10000 ? makes not less than 5 %, the content of pores with radii of more than 10000 ? makes not more than 35 %, the content of pores with radii of less than 1000 ? makes not less than 40 %, including the content of pores with radii of less than 75 ? makes not less than 31 %, and the content in the body of vanadium compounds insoluble in the sulfuric acid makes (in V2O5 equivalent) not more than 4,0 per cent by weight. The use of invention allows to improve operating characteristics of catalyst by extending the temperature working range of catalyst in low-temperature area, in particular, to increase the activity at a temperature of the catalysis of 380 DEGREE C at simultaneous increase of the activity in the range of mean temperatures of 420-485 DEGREE C.
