<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a totally efficient sales volume forecasting technique that forecasts a sales volume of a new line of merchandise with high precision from a small amount of data. <P>SOLUTION: A trend pattern selecting means 52 computes a cumulative forecast sales volume of a new line of merchandise through the end of a second given period, from a model expression stored in a model expression storing means 78a and actual sales volumes stored in an actual sales volume storing means 72a, then computes a percentage trend of values generated by the division of the actual sales volumes of unit periods between a sales start and the end of a first given period by their cumulative sales volume, and select the trend pattern that is the most similar to the percentage trend of all standard trends stored in a trend storing means 76a.
