PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the use of an electronic endoscope apparatus using an improper white balance value. SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus determines whether or not a difference between a white balance value WBF determined by the white balance adjustment and a previously set proper white balance value WBL recorded already is within a tolerance preset based on the type and characteristics of a lamp (step S304). When the difference is out of the tolerance, namely when the white balance value WBF is determined to be improper, the apparatus urges an inspection of the apparatus (step S311) or instructs to replace the lamp before starting the operation (step S312).
