<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect ghost and to appropriately eliminate the ghost without using a brush and a blade. <P>SOLUTION: The density A of the normal image of a ghost detecting patch, the density B and the density C of 1st and 2nd ghost images are measured. When the total sum of the density A, the density B and the density C exceeds a threshold X (decided in step 100), forming a toner band is set (steps 108 to 114). When the ratio of the density B to the density A exceeds a threshold Y (decided in steps 102 and 116), applied voltage to a 1st intermediate transfer roll is shifted (steps 108, 110, 122 and 124), and when the ratio of the density C to the density A exceeds a threshold Z (decided in steps 104, 106, 118 and 120), the applied voltage to a 2nd intermediate transfer roll is shifted (steps 108, 112, 122 and 126). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
