<p>PURPOSE: A wireless communication system is provided to dynamically determine the optimum bit rate for an R-CSCH(Reverse Common Signaling CHannel) in a wireless communication system. CONSTITUTION: An RF(Radio Frequency) channel condition-associated metric, which a mobile terminal(104) uses to determine the power of a signal, necessary for reverse transmission to a base station(101), can be used to select the bit rate of an R-CSCH. The mobile terminal(104) can determine the bit rate of the R-CSCH by comparing more than one measured channel condition-associated metric for at least one threshold level. The threshold level is selected so as to identify a preferential RF channel condition to select a higher bit rate and a less preferential channel condition to select a lower bit rate.</p> |
