<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which ensures a sheet conveyance path from a detection point to a transfer point, is made compact and at the same time, ensures accuracy in the detection of the end position of a sheet by a detecting means, minimizes developer recovered by a cleaning means, thereby extending a cycle to which developer fills, and effectively prevents cleaning failure. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a line sensor 51 for detecting the edge position of a sheet of recording paper, the line sensor 51 being disposed right upstream of regist rollers 10 located upstream of the transfer point G of a first photoreceptor drum 3a in the direction of recording-paper conveyance. The image forming apparatus detects the edge position of the recording paper with the line sensor after the leading end of the recording paper is brought into contact with the regist rollers and then a prescribed length of time needed to correct inclination for conveyance of recording paper has elapsed. On the basis of the result of the detection, the image forming apparatus sets an image formation area in the lateral direction of an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor drum so as to be matched with the recording paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
