摘要 1345905 Coating ROBERT HILDEBRAND MASCHINENBAU GmbH 19 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 9973/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division H2] A method of curing and hardening coating applied to a base in a liquid condition and consisting of an organic material not containing a photosensitizer which reacts exothermically including the step of energizing the organic material by exposing it to at least one flash of ultra-violet rays which directly initiate the reaction in the material the ultra-violet rays comprising at least a component having a wavelength equal to 197.4 nm effective for curing the material and lying within the resonance range of a radical of the material of said coating to be cured. An additional component of effective wavelength 184.9 mn and/or 389.0 mn can also be present in the radiation. The flashes may last for 20-50 milliseconds and there may be about 100 flashes per second, the time between successive flashes being more than 100 times as long as the length of time of the flashes. The power for each flash may be less than 100 watt seconds and generally of the order of 20 watt seconds. Specific coatings that are cured by the method are a varnish of 35% styrolized alkyd, 30% titanium dioxide and 50% solvent such as high grade gasoline, a mixture of 50% aluminium-reinforced soy oil, 30% iron oxide red and 10% xylol, a colourless varnish of 50% vegetable fatty acid and 30% of solvent, e.g. high-grade gasoline and a printing ink of commercial type consisting of material which. dries by oxidation containing no addition of siccatives.
