PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulated catenary wire which can stably suspend a trolley wire, and in addition, through which a circulating current does not flow, and by which metal fittings of special specifications can be eliminated. SOLUTION: This insulated catenary wire suspends the trolley wire of an electric traction, and is equipped with a main body comprising a fiber having a strength of 22 g/d or higher and an elongation at a break of 5% or lower, and a resin layer covering the main body. The whole of the insulated catenary wire has a traction performance of 58.6 kN or higher, weather resistance wherein a tensile breaking load after irradiation with an ultraviolet ray for 2,000 hours by a sunshine weather meter is not less than 6t, and arc resistance with an insulation resistance of 2,000 MΩor higher by a length of 1 m, and a withstand voltage which can withstand 10 kV-10 minutes.
