PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emergency automatic braking device for a vehicle which can surely make the vehicle operate braking in a shorter time than that required for a human being to apply braking when an obstacle suddenly appears in the advancing direction of the vehicle. SOLUTION: An obstacle detecting means uses a sound wave or light, and a vacuum tank is connected with the vacuum chamber of a vacuum booster. Thus, the vehicle is constituted in such a manner that this emergency automatic braking device continues operation for a while even if the engine stops when an emergency occurs. Even if an obstacle suddenly appears in front of the vehicle, the obstacle detecting means detects the appearance, and the vehicle can surely be made to operate braking in a shorter time than that required for a human being to apply braking by the detection signal. Also, since a means for applying the emergency braking to the vehicle utilizes the vacuum booster, abrupt braking can surely be performed for the vehicle. In addition, even if a person whose stepping force to a braking pedal is weak, and whose unexpected blunt judgement is slow drives the vehicle, braking can surely applied to the vehicle at the time of emergency.
