<p>The pads are made by successive addition of four components (A) a polyurethane foam material, (B) an abrasive powder, (C) a moisture-hardening polyurethane with solvent, and (D) a polyhydric alcohol. Prefd. amounts are (A) 15 pts., (B) 150 pts., (C) 30-70 pts. and (D) up to 60 pts. A harder material may be made by replacing part of (C) with a moisture-hardening polyurethane without solvent (E), and reducing the amount of (D), pref. in the ratio of (C) 40 pts., (D) up to 10 pts. and (E) 16 pts. The pads consist of abrasive grains each of which is surrounded by a resin coating. They have an abrasive action on rough surfaces, and a polishing action on smooth surfaces. Uses include rubbing down of car bodies, where rust spots can be abraded without damage to surrounding lacquer.</p> |
