1,267,551. Bone fracture fixation devices. INSTITUT DR. ING. REINHARD STRAUMANN A.G. 3 Sept., 1969 [3 Sept., 1968], No. 43507/69. Heading A5R. An implant plate for the treatment of fractured bones is made of titanium, or of a titanium alloy in which titanium is the largest constituent, and has a surface layer of titanium oxide, nitride, carbide, or carbonitride, the layer being coloured by optical interference effects, preferably to resemble body tissue colour. The surface layer may be formed by anodic treatment, or at an elevated temperature either by reaction with gases, or in a salt bath. Such a surface layer is stated to be resistant to corrosion by tissue fluids and resistant to effects of abrasion due to relative movement between two contacting implants.
