LCD MODULE FOR REDUCING THICKNESS AND WEIGHT OF THE BACKLIGHT USING AN LED ARRAY AS A LIGHT SOURCE AND A METHOD FOR DRIVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) module and a method for driving the same are provided to constitute a backlight unit using only one diffusion plate as an optical film, thereby reducing thickness and weight of the backlight unit by using an LED(Light Emitting Diode) array as a light source and installing the LED array on a rear surface of the diffusion plate without using two light guide plates. CONSTITUTION: An LCD module comprises an LCD panel(106), a light source for supplying light to the LCD panel, and a diffusion plate(110) for diffusing the light. The light source is capable of being an LED array(130) including a plurality of LEDs(134). The diffusion plate has a plurality of grooves in the rear surface thereof. The LEDs are inserted in the grooves. The LEDs are capable of irradiating white light. The LED array further includes a printed circuit board(132) for controlling the LEDs.
