PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure capable of suppressing deformation of a pillar member to the inside of a cabin by effectively dispersing load inputted at the time of a side collision by adjusting timing of reaction generated in a roof side member. SOLUTION: This vehicle body structure is constituted to curve the pillar member 2 to the outside of the cabin so that vertical direction displacement force may be generated at both upper and lower end parts of the pillar member 2 in relation to side load, and to make a roof cross member 5 continuous to the upper end part of the pillar member 2 in an interposed state of the roof side member 4. In a part connected with the pillar member 2 of the roof side member 4, a reaction adjusting part 10 is provided. The reaction adjusting part 10 generates reaction at a point of time when deformation advances by prescribed amount, while relieving reaction at a deformation initial time of the pillar member 2, to transmit load from the pillar member 2 to the roof cross member 5. As a result, load at a collision initial time can be relieved up to some degree by the reaction adjusting part 10, and thereby generation of local bending deformation can be prevented in the pillar member 2.
