A power supply for a vehicle comprising an electronic control section delivering information for controlling brake of the vehicle, and a battery supplying power to a brake through the electronic control section. An auxiliary power supply, i.e. a power supply backup unit, comprises a capacitor unit consisting of a plurality of capacitors, and a section for detecting abnormality of the capacitor unit to supply power to the brake when the battery is abnormal. The detecting section measures the internal resistance of the capacitor unit when it is charged or discharged, and measures its internal capacitance from the voltage variation rate per unit time. Based on the internal resistance and the internal capacitance, the detecting section makes a decision whether the capacitor unit is normal or not.
