<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method and system using a portable terminal that can check whether a person is entitled to a service or not at a terminal installed in a store. <P>SOLUTION: When a portable terminal 6 is connected to a portable terminal connection terminal of the installed terminal installed in a store, an arithmetic control part 1 of the authentication system reads an encrypted ID recorded in the portable terminal 6 into the installed terminal. The encrypted ID thus read in is decrypted with a decryption key stored in a storage part 5 to produce an order ID. If the produced order ID conforms to preset sequence rules, the arithmetic control part 1 sends the order ID to the portable terminal 6 via a portable terminal interface 4.
