PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack spindle which can effectively prevent an interference with a pinion gear by a simple aftertreatment to a rack tooth formed of cutting and which can improve durability, and to provide a rack-and-pinion type steering system using this rack spindle. SOLUTION: Tooth forms 3a of the rack tooth aligned in an axial longitudinal direction are formed by cutting to the outer surface of the rack spindle 1. Edges 3b of both sides of a thickness direction of addenda of these tooth forms 3a and edges 3c of tooth form appearing at both ends of a direction of the tooth trace are chamfered. Thus, the edge 3b of at least the addendum side of the edges 3b, 3c is formed with a chamfered part 3d having a suitable roundness. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
