PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accelerator for accelerating the alkali reduction of a polyester-based fiber cloth containing an easily reducible component, leaving less in the fiber and without having a problem in later processes, and a method of the reduction process by using the same. SOLUTION: This accelerator for the alkali reduction consists of at least 1 kind of a monovalent alcohol having a specific chemical structure, an adduct of≥1 mol alkylene oxide with the monovalent alcohol having the specific chemical structure and an adduct of≥1 mol epoxy derivative with the monovalent alcohol having the specific chemical structure. This method of reduction process is provided by preparing a reduction-treating liquid containing the accelerator and an alkali, and then immersing the polyester-based fiber or cloth containing the easily reducible component capable of being dissolved and removed by the alkali in the reduction-treating liquid to dissolve and remove a part or whole of the easily reducible component.
