The cable hole grommet or seal (3) has a hollow base (4) which by perforation or cutling of a part (6) of a propecting portion (5) permits a cable or wire to pass through a wall (2) of a housing. The projecting part (5) has a shape such that after perforating or cuting of the part (6) and penetration of the cable or wire (7) into the opening (1) the cable is sealed in the grommet (3) over a length of at least several mm in the longitudinal direction of the wire (7). Pref. the portion (5) has a detachable central element (8) connected by a several folds (9, 10) to the base (4). The folds (9, 10) have an average thickness somewhat less than that of the base (4).
