FIELD: polymer materials. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to starch-based dispersion containing copolymer of starch with monomers, which dispersion can be used in papermaking process. Dispersion contains product of reaction mixture containing following components in % on the content of solid phase in product: (i) 5 to 50%, preferably 5 to 40% of enzymatically undestroyed starch with degree of substitution with cationic or anionic substituents in the range 0.01 to 1 and with intrinsic viscosity, on introducing cationic and/or anionic groups, > 1.0 dl/g; (ii) 50 to 95%, preferably 60 to 95%, of monomer mixture containing at least one vinyl monomer; and (iii) water. Film formation temperature of polymer containing indicated components (i) and (ii) lies within a range from -50 to 200, preferably from 0 to 100, and still more preferably from 0 to 70. Invention also provides a method for preparing above-described distillation. When dispersion is used for sizing surface of paper, resistance of the latter to the ink bleed as well as waterproofness of paper are considerably improved. ^ EFFECT: enabled preparation of stable polymer dispersion with viscosity, which does not rise in the course of preparation of dispersion. ^ 14 cl, 10 ex
