PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display capable of realizing a large-sized screen, high definition, high resolution and multi-level gradation. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display, thin film transistors are formed in pixels, a flatness imparting film is provided as an insulating film on the thin film transistors and display is performed in an OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) mode. The thin film transistors are provided in the pixels, each thin film transistor has a semiconductor layer, a gate insulating film and two gate electrodes, the flatness imparting film is provided as the insulating film on the thin film transistors and display is performed in the OCB mode.
