OPERATING ON MIGRATED FILES WITHOUT RECALLING DATA

Techniques for performing operations on migrated files without triggering a recall of the migrated data are presented. The Storage Management Server/System (110) of the present invention can perform a copy, move, or delete operation on a migrated file without recalling the migrated file. The file being migrated between physical storage units (102) which may include disk drives, tapes, hard drives, optical disks, RAID storage structures, solid state storage devices, and other types of storage devices and media capable of storing data.
