PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the existence of microorganisms by utilizing a labeled electron receptor. SOLUTION: The method is used to detect the existence of microorganisms in a sample including a stage for providing a sealed container with a sample; a stage for substituting air containing an isotope-labeled electron receptor for air, in the sealed container for cultivation; and a stage for comparing the content of metabolite in the isotope labeled electron receptor with the content of a standard sample which does not contain microorganisms, by analyzing the isotope of air in the sealed container. Accordingly, by utilizing the isotope-labeled electron receptor, the existence or the nonexistence of microorganisms is detected rapidly and accurately not only from gas and liquid, but also from a solid sample.
